A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.
Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,
nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`ala fee haadha 'l-masjid.
Ati`oollaha wa ati`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.
Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (4:59)
Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Allah Allah, `Azeez Allah
Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Kareem Allah
Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Subhaan Allah
Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Sultaan Allah
Allah (swt) is the Sultan of all sultans!
Alhamdulillah brother `Abdal-`Azeez spoke enlightened words and addressed the people; now I will speak to you in English. In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. Listen to the orders of Prophet Mohammad (a) and those who are in charge of you. "Our way is advice and good comes from the association, tariqatuna as-suhbah wa 'l-khayru fi'l-jam`iyyah." Without advice there is no benefit.
The more all kinds of scientific knowledges increase--chemistry, geology, archeology--so does spiritual knowledge, but people are not aware of it. The reason why spiritual knowledge is growing can be proven by the fact that Muhammad (s) entered a state of endless ascension, whereby the higher he ascended, the more knowledge he received. Do you think he has stopped ascending to higher knowledges? Ascension never ends! He went into the Divine Presence. If we say that ascension has stopped, then it is as if we are saying that Allah's knowledge has come to an end. Hence, as Allah said in the Holy Quran, “Above every knower, there is one who is most knowledgeable,” so above every prophet is a higher prophet. These are His words. How? We only heard that which was revealed to Prophet (s), but what recitation we heard came from Prophet and his followers (r) and not the actual voice of Allah that Prophet heard all by himself.
Prophet Musa (a) was one of the five ulu 'l-aazam mina 'r-rusul, great messengers of Allah. He brought the Ten Commandments to the Sons of Israel, which was part of the Shari`ah of that time. Nevertheless, he was looking forward to learn more. This is why he did not want to go back when he and his helper lost track of the whale (as told in Surat al-Kahf). He wanted to go forward until he was able to see the two oceans merging with one another.
On his way back to Egypt from Yemen with his wife - Shu`ayb's daughter - and his shivering-cold children, Musa suddenly saw a fire from a distance. He was happy because he told his family that he may be able to get some of it to warm them. Otherwise, he hoped to find some guidance to where they should be heading. He told them to wait until he went to inspect it. But in reality, when he approached the light he heard Allah's voice telling him that He has something to reveal to Musa. Sayyidina Musa (a) felt happy with this intimacy he had with Allah, that he could have a direct conversation with Him, because he was completely in the state of being in the Divine Presence, which encouraged him to think that he could ask for permission to see Allah (swt) (aarinee andhur ilayk). On the other hand, Prophet Muhammad (s) never asked his Lord for anything, whether it was to go that way or move in a certain direction, nor did he ever ask of Allah (swt), “What is this?” or “What is that?”
So Musa decided to reach the merging of the two rivers. As they went, the whale that went along with them was ordered by Allah to go back into the ocean. On their way, they realized they had forgotten about the whale because Musa's (a) intention was no longer for dunya or food. His helper told him that it was a sign from Allah that they should go back to where they came from when they began the trip, meaning that "you should know your limits. You cannot come without a certain level of esoteric knowledge; therefore, you must return to the place from which you came."
That is why religious scholars find difficulty in understanding what we are saying. Spiritual teachers can be found everywhere, and they always existed since the Prophet's time. They are servants like Sayyidina Khidr (a) and are following his footsteps.
It is surely very difficult for people to understand this matter in particular. This is a very important point to which you need to open your eyes and ears. Musa (as) surely knew that Khidr (as) received knowledge from Prophet Muhammad (s). He knew this for a fact or else he would not have sought knowledge from him in order to reach the Divine Presence. (As Allah mentioned in the verse) “Allah granted him a mercy,” and this mercy is Prophet Muhammad (s). He was brought as an intercession, and that is how you can reach the mercy, rahmah.
So, O Muslims, this verse is indicating to you, Allah is saying, “If you want to come to My door, come through Prophet Muhammad (s) or you cannot come.” If Sayyidina Musa (a) wants to come to the knowledge, he has to come through Sayyidina Muhammad (s).
So Musa (s) said to Sayyidina Khidr (a), “Can I learn from you?” This means that Sayyidina Musa (a) knew Sayyidina Khidr (a) is taking from the heart of Prophet Muhamaad (s). Sayyidina Khidr (a) said, "Yaa Musa (a), what Allah gave to you is different from what I am going to show you. You might not be able to take it, because what Allah gave to you and what He gave to me is completely different.” Sayyidina Musa (a) knew the reality, because if he didn't know, he wouldn’t need to ask. (He would think,) “For what do I need to ask Khidr?”
Allah (swt) said, “We gave him the knowledge that We gave to the heart of Muhammad (s).” That's why he was able to reach the Divine Presence.
Khidr was saying, “Musa, you have your level and I have my level. You cannot keep up with me, it is impossible.”
Musa (a) said, “No, I can,” but Sayyidina Khidr (a) knew it was impossible to for him to reach the two knowledges, Shari`ah and tasawwuf.
He gave him Shari’ah and knew it was impossible to combine the two, but he said “If you insist, come on.” This doesn't mean that Sayyidina Khidr (a) is higher than Sayyidina Musa (a), no way! Sayyidina Musa (a) was from the five highest prophets, ulu 'l-aazam mina 'r-rusul, namely, Sayyidina Musa, Sayyidina Nuh, Sayyidina Ibrahim, Sayyidina `Isa, and Sayyidina Muhammad, peace be upon them all. So this means that in Sayyidina Musa’s time, they were not able to get the spiritual knowledge like from Sayyidina `Isa’s time; they were two different cultures, and Allah gave according to the time in which they lived. Esoteric knowledge was not meant for the people of Musa (as); it was meant for them to have discipline, to follow commandments. His people were not ready to receive more than Shari`ah, so only Shari`ah was given to them. This is why he was not able to take the haqiqat for them, because it was for Sayyidina Muhammad (s) to merge the two.
So Khidr (a) said, “You cannot follow me.”
Musa (a) said, “I will try.”
“Ok, try,” said Sayyidina Khidr (a).
What happened? Three times Sayyidina Musa (as) was not able to accept what Sayyidina Khidr (a) said. He was not able to comprehend haqiqat because it was not the time for it. That is why today you see many scholars that are away from haqiqat, they say it doesn’t exist. There are awliyaullah who are carrying many scholars, and that is why they are following the haqiqat.
Allah showed one `abd, one of them, where are the rest? They are everywhere, that is why if you find one, stick with him. (As narrated in Surat al-Kahf) Three times—when the ship sank, when he killed the boy, and fixed the wall with treasure buried under it, Khidr (a) took the people related to these three incidents to the “Shore of Safety”. The awliya, they understand,
من عادى لي ولياً فقد آذنته بالحرب
man `adaa lee waliyyan faqad aadhantahu bi 'l-harb
Anyone who comes against one of my saints, I will declare war on him.
So be careful from anyone who goes against the awliya.
May Allah protect us and keep us under the dome of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and under the dome of our shaykh! Ameen.
Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem, as-salaatu was-salaam `ala Sayyidina Muhammad. Subhaana Rabbika Rabbi 'l-`izzati `amma yasifoon, wa salaamun `ala 'l-mursaleen, w 'alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`aalameen, al-Fatihah.
