No One Knows the Extent of Allah's Greatness
Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

Salatu 'l-`Isha at Private Home

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh. Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmaani ‘r-Raheem. Alhamdulillah Rabbi ‘l-`alameen was salaatu was salaam `ala ashrafi 'l-mursaleen, Sayyidina wa nabiyina Muhammadan wa `ala alihi sahbihi ajma`een.

O Muslims, Allah (swt) greets you with the greetings of Islam, and greets you with the greetings of imaan, and greets you with the greetings of ihsaan. Who am I? I don't know. Anyone who claims he knows is wrong because Prophet  (s) said, man 'arifa nafsahu faqad 'arifa Rabbahu, “Whoever knows himself, knows his Lord.” We cannot claim that we know ourselves. If we know ourselves then we are on the way of ma`rifatullah (knowledge of Allah [swt])and ma`rifatullah is not something that is easy. Only Prophet (s) has the real ma'rifa because he was the one who was able to reach qaba qawsayni aw adna, "Two bow's length or nearer," in the Divine Presence.

These square-head people who are filling the world now, they think they are on haqq, but their way is baatil. They have to come back to haqq, back to Islam. No one can claim they know tawheed except Prophet Muhammad (s), who saw his Creator with the eyes of his head. That is the meaning of ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasooluh. We say too many times the shahadah but is it real or imitational? We are so weak. We ask Allah (swt) to change it to real, because you must say ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasooluh on something you saw, not on something you didn't see.

When you go to court, because you were there when an event happened, the judge will call you to be a witness. When a blind man witnesses an accident, they don't call him because he is blind, but they will call a man who can see. We must see, because Prophet (s) raised his Sahabah (r) to see. Sayyidina Muhammad (s) is the only one who could see Allah (swt) with his own eyes. qul huwAllahu ahad, huwa ahadun Ahad (the One and Only). That One Who can only be known through His Beautiful Names and Attributes is Allah (swt). Why Sayyidina Bilal (r) could see when was being tortured, is because he was in Maqam ash-Shahadah, the Station of Witnessing.

O Muslims! We don't claim we are seeing, but they claim they are on haqq so let them tell us what they are seeing! What they claim they are seeing, that Allah (swt) has hands and nails, it may be that He must cut them! (laughter) But Ahlu ’s-Sunnah don't make such claims, but only one thing, and that is ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasooluh. We claim that Sayyidina Muhammad (s) is the habeeb! We take his shafa'ah! If they don't want that, let them go to Hell! Imam al-Busayri (s) understood that reality. He said, huwa al-habeeb is unknown, his reality is unknown, not his physicality. No one can know the greatness of Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! Why did Imam al-Busayri (r) say, qul huwAllahu ahad, huwa ahadun Ahad, it means there is one and only onequl huwAllahu ahad, "Say: Allah is One!" He is the Creator, the One to be worshipped, to Whom we make sajdah to show our servanthood.

Prophet Muhammad (s) is the only real servant to Allah (swt). Don't think we are servants! We didn't reach yet Maqam al-`Uboodiyyah, the Station of Ultimate Servanthood. We are struggling, but did we reach Maqam al-`Uboodiyyah yet? There is a difference between awliyaa and normal people. Why did Allah (swt) say about awliyaaullah, "No fear on them as they are protected by Allah."  lahal fun `alayhim, don't insult them! In school when you are doing your PhD, in front of the professor some may say, "Don't worry, you are going to pass and get your degree." Awliyaullah are (getting their degrees by) passing to their reality.

Those who wrote these qasaa'id understand the reality; they were able to go across that bridge with Sayyidina Muhammad, to the Beautiful Names and Attributes. al-Habeeb means "the only Beloved of Allah," there is no other one. There is "al-Kaleem." You can say, Musa kaleemullah, but you can't say, Musa habeebullah. You can say `Isa ruhullah, but you can't say ruhullah `Isa. You can say huwa 'l-habeeb, Muhammad habeebullah, (he is the beloved, Muhammad is Allah's Beloved) and you can say Allah habeeb Muhammad (Allah is Muhammad's Beloved), that is accepted.

(Mawlana stands.) SubhaanAllah, there is only one, not two. The only one is al-Habeeb, the Lover whose intercession is accepted, and no other one is accepted! Yaa Muhammad!!! (Mawlana sits.) Huwa al-habeeb al-ladhi turja shafa`atuhu, "He is the Beloved, the only one whose intercession is sought." It means everyone is seeking his intercession, prophets, and not only Adam (a), as Allah said in Holy Qur'an, "Allah has ordered His angels to make salawaat on the Prophet." How many angels are there? Ten, twenty, one-hundred, one-thousand, one-hundred thousand, a million, trillion, an infinite number? You cannot give a number, because you will diminish `adhaamatullah (Allah's Greatness)!! Allah (swt) is not only creating us on this Earth, but His creating never ends or (if that happened) His greatness is not vast enough! No one knows (the extent of Allah's Greatness)! There are no limits for al-Khaaliq (The Creator)!
